Pedestrian Overpass

I don't have much to say for myself tonight. The one thing I did see in Wuxi, the one Chinese thing, was this pedestrian overpass that takes one over a freeway near the apartment. I took the bike to work today. On the way home, I took the bike down a new way, in the spirit of exploration. I came to the overpass and saw that it was bike friendly. That is, I could ride my bike up and down, and not have to push it. However, the surface of the overpass was tiled and so many of the tiles were missing I had to wonder about its' workmanship and maintenance.

I finished watching an old movie Bringing Up Baby on DVD yesterday. The movie made in the thirties starred Katherine Hepburn and Cary Grant. It was a hoot to watch. I particularly enjoyed this bit where an Irish man named Gogarthy, in a monologue, exclaimed, in an Irish brogue, "Gogarthy, they say, you should stay away from the bottle. But I need a little nip to steady me nerves." Priceless. I may show it in the last ever movie class at school.

I will finally be able to pick up a card proving Tony's Canadian citizenship from the consulate in Shanghai. I applied for it over 18 months ago.

Good for you on picking up Tony's Canadian citizenship certificate. If Tony was born in China, he is by default a Chinese citizen.

You won't know if this piece of paper is important unless you don't have it. by then it'll be too late.

How come it took 18 months?

The bureaucracy was slow. At one point, they told me that there weren't enough people working in some department in Ottawa.

As if the Federal government can ever be too small....

If you liked Bringing Up Baby, you should watch The Philadelphia Story, with Katherine Hepburn, Cary Grant and Jimmy Stewart...
