In a recent entry, I noted that my complaint, about the Chinese asking what Tony's sex was, was unjustified because I had in fact mistaken the sex of a child on many occaisions. Here is another example. When previously I had meet the child to the right of Tony, I had assumed that she was a boy. Boy! Was I wrong. She is a girl alright and apparently she had a crush on Tony after their first meeting. Jenny told me that this little girl wouldn't eat because she wanted to see Tony.

I've seen many Chinese people ask each other if their baby is a boy or a girl. I was shocked the first time I heard it because in the West we will pretend if we don't know the gender. Let's face it: most kids are somewhat gender-neutral and we can only judge by their clothes!
