Why the Green Matting?
All throughout the lanes of the California Villa Apartments in the Hui Shan District of Wuxishire, China, the above-pictured matting can be seen.
What is it covering? A month or so ago, the pipes under the cobblestones were repaired. The pipes were covered with gravel.
Residents are annoyed that the lanes have not been properly resurfaced and they want the property managers to be fired.

Trouble Comes in Threes
This morning, as I was driving, I passed two accident scenes. First, I saw that a van had sideswiped another van. Then, I saw that a car had hit an e-bike while turning.
After passing the second accident, I thought oh-oh, trouble comes in threes; and I wondered if I would pass a third accident scene. I didn’t .
Instead, I saw a middle aged man, wearing nothing but speedo style trunks, standing at the side of the road. Perhaps he washed up with a basin full of rain water.

E-Biker killed near the Hui Shan Wanda Plaza
The traffic police had the body covered.
This was bound to happen. E-bikes and cars share the roads. Their drivers operate like the other mode of transportation doesn’t exist.
Wacky Wednesday Photos
From China where, from a westerner’s eyes, things seem wacky or Wacked Out!
Wordle 767 2/6
Before I pressed the “enter” to make the second guess, I had to take a deep breath. It seemed so obviously the second answer that it couldn’t be…..
My 12th eagle of 2023!
Taco Tuesday Photos
Somewhere in the world it is Tuesday.
And somewhere in the world, where it is Tuesday, it’s Taco Tuesday like at the Wuxishire Taco Bell.
Here are some photographs I took on Tuesday:

The Ruins of a Mall Clock Tower
The wall in front is the new snazzy style of temporary wall that hides construction and renovation or abandonment.

I am not a neocon anymore!
There was a time when I labelled myself a wannabe neocon. Why? Because they were against communism and for liberal democracy. I thought their goal to spread the latter around the world was worthy.
Well now, I regret having thought such a thing. How did this come about? Trump’s candidacy and reading Pat Buchanan’s columns. In the latter, Buchanan took the Christian position that we should have showed magnanimity to Russia after beating them in the Cold War. That wasn’t done. As well, there was the clownish and ineffectual behavior of neocons like Jonah Goldberg, John Bolton and John Podhoretz. The latter was dead wrong about Trump’s election and even supported Trudeau during the Truckers protest.
I make this entry as a marker in case anyone cares to look at my past blogging.
How do I classify myself now? A wannabe Reactionary in the mode of Nicolás Gómez Dávila: the Nietzsche of the Andes.

Dueling Rules for the Wuxishire Man WeChat Group
If you feel your honor has been besmirched by another member of this group, you can publicly challenge them to a duel here. The rules for the duel are muskets at forty paces. (Leon has kindly provided the muskets. )There is a nice secluded field on the shores of Li lake that is recommended as the site for the duel.

Glad I’m not an atheist
It’s hard to be a stalwart supporter anything in this world. America? Nah. It’s filled with Democrats. And Republicans? Losers. Trump? He’s served his purpose. He has exposed how totally corrupt the GAE is, but he’s not ruthless enough and too ego-driven. The EU? A joke. China? I need Western culture to be able to live in it. Latvia? The Nazis and Communists didn’t destroy Latvians, they are now destroying themselves.
We are living in a world of mutual self-inflicted destruction.
Thank God, I’m not an atheist. I don’t have to feel compelled to back any human organization, even the current pope.
AKIC’s Ten Greatest and Why
- Nicolás Gómez Dávila: I love his aphorisms. He is the proper combination of suspicion of leftism combined with suspicion of modernism. He is the ideal escape.
- David Warren: My favorite blogger: Catholic and Contrarian.
- Steve McQueen: My favorite cool icon. He became a serious Christian before his premature death.
- Evelyn Waugh: My favorite writer. He was reactionary, was Catholic, had great style, and was very humorous,”
- Tony Esposito: The coolest looking ice hockey goaltender of all time. Thank God, he didn’t play in the cage mask era.
- Arnis Kaulins: My father.
- Fred Astaire: His dancing was great. His on-screen aristocratic manner I wish I could emulate.
- TS Eliot: My favorite 20th century poet.
- Frank Sinatra: The best singer.
- Don Rickles: The greatest comedian.
