Regular, diligent, rare, observant readers — not the kind that would ever fall for mass delusion psychosis or any sort of derangement syndrome, the kind that knows who is properly contemptible — may notice that I am keeping irregular hours today. To which I say: guilty as charged.
No classes today, I am in no hurry to do nothing.
So today, I did go to school, but only so that I could see my son Tony who does have classes to attend.
At school, I napped in my classroom closet and did a lap of the school grounds, stopping along the way to explore the campus empty classroom building.
Once I saw Tony, I took the bus to the S1 Metro Line. I then rode the train from the Jiangyin TCM station to the Jiangyin Bund station. The latter being the northern terminus of the S1 line.
On the bus, a passenger and the driver had an animated discussion about what I didn’t know. Other passengers told the older guy to calm down.
On a whim, I decided to check out the area around the Jiangyin Bund station. When I first got of the station, I wasn’t impressed. I saw a flat empty field and construction not quite started or finished. But walk 350 meters, you come to a park that runs along the banks of the Chang Jiang River, aka Yangtze. I was afforded a great view of the river, boat traffic, and the Jiangyin Big Bridge. I took a lot of photos which I’ll publish in my substack.
From the Bund I took the S1 to the Zhongshan Park station. I got my reading glasses fixed again and bought baked goods at the 85 degree bakery. I had a hot ice tea when I thought I told them I wanted it cold. I didn’t make a fuss. I gave a loonie to a beggar who seemed very happy to have a foreigner give him money.
I can walk into any glass shop and have them fix my glasses for gratis.
My business done, I took the bus back to the Jiangyin apartment. It was a one kilometer walk to the bus stop — I used Apple Maps to help me — but only a four minute wait. The old locals were surprised to see a foreigner on the bus.
