There was a death in our Wuxi apartment community; also known Jia Zhou Yang Fang or the California Villa.
This old man, a neighbor, died. He was very familiar to the Kaulins family. I would say he was the most familiar face and presence in Jia Zhou Yang Fang. He was always to be seen whether he was hanging out with the security guys or walking by the neighborhood. (He had a limp, but also a pleasant friendly face) Whenever I would see him, I would make a point of greeting him: it always felt nice to do so.
I learned from my wife Jenny that his funeral was this morning. It shocked and saddened me to hear of this because I had only just seen him just a week ago and a big void, that I hadn’t thought of, was now in our lives. A familiar face, a friendly greeting; simple things like this are gold and make live worth living.
Tony is saddened by his death, as well.
R.I.P. Old Man.
