Movies Watched So Far…

 … In this lockdown:

Copshop  (2021): Downloaded on the recommendation of the London Calling podcast.  A bunch of assassins end up in jail and chaos ensues.  Some entertaining moments.  The star cop is a black woman.  One of the assassins has a ponytail which he undoes at strategic moments.

The Fugitive (1947): Downloaded because it was Catholic themed and was directed by John Ford.  Henry Fonda is a priest living in an undefined Latin American state.  He is escaping government persecution of priests.  The movie was filmed well and full of John Ford flourishes.  The plot was rather thin.

Locked Down!

 Wednesday, I worked.

Wednesday evening, I saw chatter on WeChat about possible lockdown.  I wasn’t in work mode when I tried to fall asleep.

Thursday morning, I got up as usual and was getting ready to go to work.  I learned that the kids weren’t going to school and then that the teachers weren’t either.  My son Tony & I had our NAT tests done.  I made a video to show our kindergarten kids.

It seems that we aren’t allowed to leave our apartment complex today.  Don’t know what we’re going to do for food.  The supermarkets are madhouses I’ve heard.

Two QR Codes to Get Through a Checkpoint

 The authorities here are going silly, yet again, because of some Covid cases and their zero-Covid policy.

Now to be able to get on a train, one has to show two QR codes.

What a load of crap!

The Covid Enforcement Seems to have Increased

On Thursday, I had to take a Covid test at school.

On Saturday, I went to the nearby major shopping mall (Livat) and experienced increased enforcement and saw decreased shopper traffic.  At checkpoints, I had to show not just the normal travel QR Code (showing I hadn't gone anywhere) but also a health QR Code (issued by the Jiangsu authority).  In the Livat Mall, I saw store staff visibly standing around in groups not serving customers and chatting idly.  I suppose the traffic was less because some apartment compounds in Wuxi have been locked down, and some people are panicking.

My wife who does follow the local news told me to wear my mask all the time because it was getting serious.  She also told me that small shops in the area of our Hui Shan apartment have been ordered to close

On Sunday, I took our car to the car store to get serviced and was held up by a staffer because I hadn't shown them a QR Code.  Now, I should have been on the ball and shown them the QR Code,  but I can't join in the panic and quickly forget about it if I stay in my apartment.  My working assumption these days is that the Covid thing is over, but I must be assuming wrong…

On Monday, my son Tony will have to bring three masks to school.   Covid is a big thing in Wuxi, he told me.
