Observations published on a Monday in late July 2011

  • Fake Apple Stores in China?!?  Who would have thunk it?  So, I have to wonder if my Ipad is real.
  • The killer in Norway was crazy and evil.  He was not a reflection on anyone's society or beliefs.  He is a manifestation of the fact that no society can exist without jails -- evil impulses exist in all of us.  No much else can be said.  But that won't stop people.
  • This mass-murder appears to be a victory for the Leftists.  Why does it have to be that when these things happen, many seem to pray, not for the victims, but that the perpetrator is from the other side?
  • The din (is that the right word?  I will use it. I don't care.) at a restaurant I went to on Saturday night was overwhelming.  We had found a seat in the corner of a packed restaurant where apparently a wedding was taking place.  For about twenty minutes I saw people engaging in drinking games and I found I couldn't hear myself think.  But the food was so good.
  • What should you do for someone on their lunar birthday?    Answer at the end of this entry.
  • Amy Winehouse is dead.  I heard of her before she died but I hadn't listened to any of her music till I heard of her death.  The song Back to Black I find quite haunting especially since the video showed Winehouse at a funeral.
  • Moon them!

  1. Why on earth would you say something like a mass murder is a "victory" for "Leftists"..?

That's the kind of lunacy the perpetrator was spouting.

Brutality such as this is not a "victory" by any sane criteria, whatsoever. For anyone.

    Good Lord...

  2. I commenting on the fact that these mass-killings get politicized. And the Left particularly uses these incidents to denounce the right.

On National Review, I have seen Leftists making aha! comments to Marc Steyn and others because the Norwegian Kook quoted them in that manifesto. It would make as much sense as blaming Al Gore for the Unabomber. (Gore was quoted in the Unabomber's manifesto).

I take it you disavow the leftists who seem to relish at the prospect of blaming Christian Fundamentals and Conservatives for the killings in Norway.

After the Arizona shooting, there was a rush to blame Sarah Palin and right wing talk radio. One of the most egregious examples of this was not perpetuated by a Leftist Troll. It was a nobel prize winning economist who has a column in the New York Times, Paul Krugman. He couldn't hold himself back.

Palin was compelled to defend herself. Something Leftists don't allow Conservatives to do. When Palin used the words "blood libel" in her defence, the Left accused her of being anti-semitic. How dare she appropriate the word! She's a dunce because she doesn't know the word's proper usage. Thankfully, she was defended by Rabbis for her usage.

I take it you disavow the lunacy of the attacks made on conservatvies and Palin in particular after the Arizona shooting.

  3. I share Colin's reservations about this. I have to admit that when this story broke I couldn't resist paying a visit to smalldeadanimals to see how they would react. It was all very predictable, with plenty of preemptive attacks on leftist bogeymen.

We could all make do with a little less paranoia.
