Back to School

 The government has decided that the students can come back to school.  They are coming back on Monday.  We learned about this on the weekend so the first day will be chaotic.  At least, my son Tony is happy to be going back to school.

I spent the weekend following what I could about what was going on in Ukraine.  I wish it wasn’t happening.  What exactly is happening is hard to determine since everything presented seems like propaganda.  I can’t get myself to join in the “I’m with Ukraine” people because it is nothing but virtue-signaling.  I can’t get mad at the Russians either because they were goaded into doing it.  The western elites are morons.

Meanwhile fascism has come to Canada.  Trudeau wants to defend Ukrainian dumbocracy.  His hypocrisy is galling.

Are Putin and Trudeau Allies?

 Jacinda Trudeau must be loving what is happening in Ukraine.  It is removing the focus of the world on him and his evil response to the Canadian Freedom Convoy.

As well, Castro’s bastard son has to be appreciative of Putin’s  claiming to be fighting Nazism in Ukraine.  He must be seeing a kindred Russian spirit.

Conflicted about What’s Going On in Ukraine

I'm a little conflicted about what's going on in Ukraine.  As a person of Latvian heritage, I hope the Russians don't invade Latvia next.  As a person of a right wing, reactionary, dissident perspective, I can see Russia's side of the story and I don't find myself cheering for the western side because as Pravda says:

The "West" is a dreary open-air prison where individual freedoms and personal integrity have been abolished by decree. It is a place where the family, cornerstone of civilized society, is under constant, pernicious attack, a place where men are urged to transform into women and women are becoming men. A place run by sadistic satanists who are enjoying the pain and suffering they inflict on their populations. A place where rulers such as Biden, Macron, Trudeau, Rutte, Draghi, Von der Leyen and Ardern deserve to be in prison with a life sentence. Many would even prefer to see them dangling from nearby lamp posts. People in the "West" are subjected to a daily barrage of the most insidious and evil propaganda by the media (newspapers, tv, radio, social media), relying on "independent fact checkers."Although hard statistical data are not available, one may safely estimate that at least one quarter to one third of populations in any "Western" nation does not agree with the discriminatory, arbitrary and racist policies of their governments. These policies are particularly harmful to the average citizen: anti-covid measures, draconian rules imposed to fight "Climate Change," and delusional woke and "LGBTQ" codes of conduct.

Making Videos

Because of the stopping of in person classes due to Omnicron coming to Wuxi, there was a plan for us to do online classes with our kindergarten students until it was learned that government wasn't allowing it.

So now the foreign staff at the kindergarten are making videos. The videos are short so that they can be transferred on the WeChat social media app to parents.

I've learned a few tricks making these videos.  First, music playing in the background make videos seem more professional.  Second, if you are demonstrating how to do something, record the demo video without sound, then speed up the video and finally add the sound.  It looks way professional.  Third, don't let apps extort money from you.  An app on my phone wanted to charge hundreds of some monetary unit to add a music track to the video.  I found a work around.  It took just a little more time.

My Compound Does the PCR Test on Everybody

But so does my school.

What has happened twice is that in the afternoon, the school has everyone take PCR tests; the next morning my apartment complex then wants to have all residents take PCR tests.

To get out of being tested twice in 24 hours, I have to show the apartment complex guard something on my phone like a certificate or a QR code.  If you can't do this, you got to get tested again.  A few of my colleagues have had to take the test at their apartment complexes while I haven't had to,

Second PCR Test

For the first twenty months of the Covid Panic, I had managed to avoid having to do a PCR test,

Then in December, I had to have one done before getting a medical procedure.  That was my first.

Now with Omnicron coming to the Xi Shan District of Wuxi, I have been PCR tested twice in five days: Thursday and Monday.

Both of the recent tests were done at my school.  I haven't done a class since Thursday.  Till this panic ends, we'll be shooting videos…

A Question about Olympics

 How come there isn’t spring or autumn Olympics?  Is it because no one does sports in those seasons?  Or is it discrimination against those seasons?  It is so unfair!

Increase in Views

My blog viewing numbers have spiked the last two days.  Strangely, the stats say that the views haven't been from recent entries.  I'm getting ten views for every recent entry.  The spike in views is from past entries.

What's with that?

How Do I Feel about the Canadian Flag?

The Dominion of Canada has had, I think, two flags.  The current one is the one with the red maple leaf.  The previous flag was the red ensign with the Union Jack in the top left corner and a lovely ensign symbol in the center.  

I have been preferring the red ensign.  It was unassuming and full of interesting detail.  The maple leaf flag, aka the Pearson pennant,  was garish and a symbol of all that had gone wrong with Canada with its election of Trudeaus and its (starting in the 60s) needing to be like the Americans, with their visible patriotism, while at the same time hating them.  The Pearson pennant also represented Canada's moving away from Christianity.  In my WeChat avatar, I had taken to using a ice hockey stick to represent my being from Canada and would post the red ensign flag on July 1.

It now seems that the truckers have taken the Maple Leaf flag as their own.  The Canadian regime's media could not hide the massive display of Maple Leaf flags among the protestors.  The protestors were also visible Christians.  Is the Maple Flag now the symbol of the fringe majority and Canadian Christians? What am I and leftist Canadians to do? 

Meanwhile in China

I am following events in Canada best I can.  Friday evening, I learned that poop was going down.  Saturday morning, a contact in Canada sent me a video of horses being set on protestors.  The video is circulating on WeChat.  I also came upon ten more nicknames for the Canadian PM.

Friday, I got a message from my wife saying I couldn't leave my apartment compound without having a PCR test done.  I had had the test done on Thursday afternoon.  My wife told the security this but they told her that I would still have to do one in the complex that were being set up to start at 7:00 AM.  I told my school about this and they had some certificates sent to all the teachers in our department on WeChat that we could then show to the security.  And so I was able to get out of the complex and go to work.  (My son Tony did online classes)

At work, I learned that a lot of the other teachers stood in line at other complexes to do PCR tests again.  As well, I was told that students from our school who were in my compound stood in line to do the PCR tests.  No way to sent so many of them proof, I suppose.

At work, we were told that we were to do online classes with our children.  We were then told, at the end of the day that the government said that kindergartens couldn't do online classes.  Now, we are going to make videos…

Nicknames and Ways of Referring to Justin Trudeau

Justin Trudeau and Joe Biden have a few things in common.  They are both dumb as bags of nails.  But more importantly for me, they both inspire people to coin nicknames and to not refer to them by their proper names.  I was collecting Brandon nicknames but now I have been collecting Trudeau nicknames and adjectives. Here is what I have gathered so far:

Lockdown?

Just after lunch today, I learned that because of the Covid cases in the area, my school had to send the students home.  But not before getting all staff and students to take PCR tests.  (There is a photo of this at my photo blog.)

As of the time of this entry, the teachers in my department will go to the school tomorrow.

My son, who attends the school, will stay at home and be taking online classes.  Not sure, am I, about what  I'll be doing.

I remarked to a colleague as this was happening that if this was a real pandemic, they'd be telling everyone to split.  As it was, everyone seemed to like the break from routine.  It was all very casual.

How long this will last is anyone's guess.

Three QR Codes Needed

With Omnicron officially in Wuxi, the authorities had to act.  (Or should I said felt like they had to) When I arrived at school this morning, I was told I had to download another app on my phone in order to produce another QR code that was needed by the powers to be.  I had to get my wife to register me with that app

Later this morning, my wife phoned me asking me to provide her two more QR codes from two other apps that I had been using to get admittance to public places these past two years.  The school Tony goes to required these codes.

When I was told that I needed to provide a QR code by work, I thought I could give them a QR code from a Jiangsu province health authority.* When I gave the WTF to needing to download and register for another app, I was told that this app was provided by Wuxi so that I could take some Covid test.

The other QR code is used with WeChat.  This must be my location being tracked.

So, three QR codes required in the third year of the Covid panic.  I suppose that in the tenth year of Covid, ten QR codes will be required and the three computer chips stuck in your brain and buttocks will have to be replaced.

*known as the Alipay app but I use an app independent of Alipay.

Interesting Times

In Canada, Prime Minister Diapers has invoked the emergency power acts on account of the protests.  I caught wind of this at lunchtime.  I'm numb.

In Wuxi, China, Omnicron has come.  An apartment complex about 10 km from where I am residing now has been locked down.  I heard this about 15:00.  When I got home from work, my son Tony was saying that his school (my school too) was going to be cancelled and that he would have to take classes online.  He then asked if I was going to work the next day.  As far as I knew, I was I told him.

Do the Locals Know about the Canadian Truckers?

 I couldn’t tell you.  I don’t talk to many adult locals and probably won’t.  I am teaching kindergarten these days.

Now I have been posting a few things in support of the truckers on WeChat moments.  Some adult locals I have as contacts can see the postings.  A former student did respond to one of my postings and asked why the truckers didn’t want to take the vaccine.  I had to tell him there was much more to the protests than just that.  I suspect that is what the locals know about the protests.

1.6 RMB Wuxi Metro Dilemma

The stops or stations of the Wuxi Metro are configured differently.  Which is fine I suppose.  Variety makes life spicy or something to that effect.  Some stops have the platform in the middle of the two tracks so you can easily access a train going either direction. Some stops have two platforms so that you may have to go under or over the tracks to get to the train going in your desired direction.  Near and dear to my heart, I’ve noticed that there is variety when it comes to restroom (or washroom) placement.  At some stations, you have to enter the station — that is go through the admission gate — to get to the bathroom.  At other stations, the restrooms are outside of the admission gates.  Of the stations where you have to gain admission, some have their restrooms on the platform which I think is pretty cool.

I wish to discuss a station which has a very confusing configuration.  I won’t tell you its precise location to protect the innocent and also, so as for me to not be attacked by critics who may feel compelled to hang out at the station and wait to pounce on me with violence or sarcastic laughter.  This station is one of the sort with two platforms, which is not evil.  However, passengers have to be careful when entering.  There are stairs and a tunnel going under the tracks.  However, these stairs and tunnel are outside the admission area so you have to be on the ball when it comes to which admission gate you go through.  You could end up on the platform for the train going in the wrong direction and have but two recourses:  you could leave the platform through the exit gate and eat 1.6 rmb or you could take the train in the wrong direction for one stop and then board a train going in the right direction and lose some time.  It’s an embarrassing dilemma to be in and it would be a great shame to tell the Wuxi Metro staff about it, even if I could speak the local language.

I have to be at this station slash stop once a month to conduct a financial procedure, so if I go there in a state of absentmindedness, I will find myself standing on the wrong platform facing that dilemma.  On the two occasions when I realized my gaffe, I chose once to eat the money and the other instance to go down the line one stop.

Ways of Referring to Justin Trudeaiu

 The current PM of Canada is a bad man.  Of this there can be no doubt.  He could redeem himself by resigning and living in a monk’s cell the rest of his life.

Since he doesn’t seem to want to do this and since he is intent on continuing his bad ways, he must be mocked.  Here is a list of ways he should be referred to as long as he is the PM:

A 19 Floor Magical Journey

 

745 Day Steak on Duolingo and Why My Chinese Sucks

745 days of studying Chinese, French and Spanish on the app.

Duolingo is an okay app, but it is prone to wokeness.  Some of its dialogues involve lesbian and gay couples.  One of its podcasts celebrated a French tranny in the Canadian armed forces.  I have to ignore that.

Can I speak French, Spanish or Chinese?  I can understand more French and Spanish than ever before. But I have no chances to converse in those two languages.  I don't speak enough Chinese to be thought of someone who can speak Chinese. This despite being in China since 2004.

What excuses can I offer for my Chinese deficiency?  I do have many.  

Firstly, I have never mastered the tones.  In slow motion, I would have to speak to use them correctly, but as soon as the speed goes up, as it would in real life, tones are forgotten about. And thus I am misunderstood.  I hoped I could pick up the tones by imitating others, but even saying a simple phrase like happy new year （新年好！）can result in befuddlement from the locals.  Can they even grasp what I'm trying to say?  I end up saying f**k it!

Secondly, I don't make much effort in trying to speak it.  The tone trouble makes me not bother most of the time.  I having been a loner or outcast and holder of wrong opinions, since me adolescence, am content to live in my own world, my own mental space as it were.

Thirdly (is that even a word?), my Chinese wife is no help.  She hasn't the patience to deal with my pronunciation trouble, saying it is horrible.  (My son who speaks English and Chinese is no help either, but that's another story)

Fourthly, I don't consume any Chinese pop culture.  I read books, listen to podcasts, watch foreign movies and all the TV series from Netflix and HBO and so on…. Modern Chinese culture is not very appealing in my opinion.

Fifthly, the locals don't speak the textbook Mandarin I study.  Much of what I overhear in Wuxi is incomprehensible.  It was only in Beijing, many years ago that I could walk about and hear Chinese that I could understand.

Sixthly, I can go days without engaging with locals.  I have no Chinese friends.

Seventhly, I'm in China to teach English.

Despite these excuses, it is still pathetic that my Chinese is so bad. I can only say in my defense that I am familiar with the language and can even recognize a lot of characters, and I do make the effort, minimal though it is, to study it.

To Stay in China or to Leave?

During my holidays, we had two sets of visitors come to Casa Kaulins Xi Shan.

The first visitor said he was going to stay in China.  He had no reason to return to Canada.

The second visitor said that China is pushing foreigners out.  He would return to South Africa eventually he figured.

As for me, China is my in-law.  I am stuck here.  

I've scratching at the bit, wishing I could be in Canada supporting the truckers and fighting the progressives and sheep.

The Olympics

I suppose that since I am in China, I might as well say something about the Olympics currently being hosted here.

It may well be that since I am south of the Yangtze, there isn't much Winter Olympic fever or Olympic syndrome or Olympic flu or Olympic disease or Olympic variant to be witnessed.  This may also be because a lot of locals wear face-diapers and I can't see their Olympic addled countenances.  Or it may be because I am the one doing the witnessing and because I live an expatriate life where I am oblivious to the doings and the moods of the locals that I am blind to the excitement.  I am also more interested in what the Canadian truckers and their evil enemies are doing. (How I wish Coward-19 would resign!)

Still, the Chinese regime is doing a good job of containing Covid and Olympic fever isn't it?  And as I sit in a crowded shopping mall, typing this, I don't see any olympicy things.

The opening ceremony was on the TV in our living room.  My wife & son were watching it and I told them to tell me when the Latvian team made an appearance.  Tony dutifully warned me and I was disappointed to see that all the team members were wearing face diapers .  I was hoping the Latvian Olympians would make me as proud as Canadian truckers.  Alas, they were being like Latvian Rifles, circa 1918.

I won't be doing much Olympics watching.

Thoughts and Anecdotes about the Convoy

 Some of the Canadians I have encountered on Social Media are in support of the truckers; some I know are not.  One of my contacts sent me video of the convoy that he had taken as he stood on the roadside and cheered the honking truckers on.  He said it was great to witness history.  Some others I have chatted with were very disdainful, to say the least.  One of my contacts blocked or deleted me.  He said he was angry about the alleged Terry Fox statue desecration.  I pushed back saying it was the MSM trying to discredit the protest and nothing more.  He swore at me and then Messenger told me he was no longer available.

I have been listening to a lot of podcasts talking about the convoy.  The convoy has attracted interest from podcasters in the UK and the USA.  

A great new nickname for our current Canadian PM:  Jacinda Trudeau.

I’ll never vote for Conservatives as long as O’Toole is their leader.  With Jacinda, the stupidity is built-in, but O’Toole, you think, would know better.  Perhaps the big Zero’s idea of conservatism is progressive conservatism. He is perhaps more despicable than Jacinda. 

The protesters should not insist they are nice and not violent.  That’s playing into the Left’s hands.  That’s making it seem like the Left has a point.  The Left are idiotic on so many points.  The Left lie.  Nothing the Left says should be heeded or even responded to.  Do real adults take the prattling of immature children seriously? Of course not.  The protesters merely have to say the bullshit has to stop.  Talk like adults and put the fear of God into the liberals and progressives and wokesters and covid-bedwetters.
